TEDxGrassValley Speaker: Ginny Woods - ani Karma Drolma, RN, CMT, NMT
Compassion in Action Ginny Woods comes from a family of healers. She is a mother, grandmother, registered nurse, Traditional Chinese Acupressure Therapist, certified Chinese massage therapist and instructor, Reiki master teacher, certified Feng Shui consultant, and an ordained Tibetan Buddhist nun. She has been a midwife, paramedic nurse, hospice practitioner, and created her own preschool.
In 2000, Ginny began traveling to China to train at the famed Beijing Massage Hospital in Beijing. She became and instructor to her Tuina Massage students there and continues yearly teaching programs there.
After 20 years of Buddhist practice, she made a second trip to India to receive ordination as a Tibetan Buddhist nun of the Kagyu lineage. She is now called by her spiritual name, ani Karma Drolma. Ordination has deepened her commitment to help end the suffering of all sentient beings by empowering people to become all they are capable of being. She does this by helping to relieve physical and emotional suffering, feeding the homeless, teaching meditation, traveling to third world countries as a nurse volunteer, creating opportunities in her community for the citizens to help others, and encouraging others to develop compassion and respect for all life. We are all connected. We all suffer and wish for happiness.
Q. What is your personal mission or passion that is helping to re-shape the future?
A. Helping people get in touch with who they are and what they can give of themselves to their sisters and brothers in this world as compassion in action. Q. Describe a significant moment or experience that inspired your personal mission or passion to make a difference? A. It has been a life time of inspiration. Traveling to rural China and India, and being ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun have been deep passions to continue Q. How do you see women and girls in the local and global communities affecting the future? A. Becoming aware of the deep well of knowledge and diverse experiences each has within themselves, and offering this as inspiration to others. Q. What do you hope will be the outcome of showcasing incredible women and bringing thousands together at events like TEDWomen and TEDxGrassValley? A. That we will all see that we are all the same in this world. We are all seeking happiness and wanting to avoid suffering, AND we can help each other in this because we see we are all interdependent. No one is alone. Q. Why is it so important to participate in groups and events that connect women and feature their talents, ideas, and solutions right now? A. By being part of the support network, we can recognize ourselves in each other. Media can be valuable in spreading the messages in a time when we feel so connected. Women are being seen as the powerful force we are. Q. What other female thought leaders should we be paying attention to these days? A. Women behind the leaders-mothers, sisters, the poor, the elderly, the suffering in third world countries who learn first-hand the impact others can have on the lives of every sentient being. Q. What is your message to women around the world? A. Become all you are capable of being now, and share it with others. TEDxGrassValley will feature a handful of the region's leading women thinkers, innovators, artists, leaders and philosophers to address "how women and girls are shaping the future" in our community.
